Asamoah Gyan reveals technique he used to beat America at the 2010 World Cup

Ghanaian Legend and top goal scorer of the senior national team, Asamoah Gyan has disclosed how he beat the American defense to score a sublime goal enroute to the quatre finals of the 2010 World Cup.

Gyan scored a superb goal in the 93rd minute of extra time to consign the Americans to a consecutive defeat at the World cup to propel Ghana to the quarter finals of the 2010 World Cup. Fourteen years after the historic world cup held on the African soil, the former Ghanaian skipper has opened the lid on how he easily manipulated the American Captain to score in extra time.

“It was a clearance from Andre , and I saw the defender he was my team mate at that time at France Carlos Bocanegra and was their captain and I knew he was very slow so I was waiting for that opportunity , I was weighing the two Centre backs to see the one who was slow and the one who was fast , that’s what the  new generation is not aware, you have to watch the two Centre backs and see who is fast and play against the one who is not fast” Asamoah said in an interview with captain smart on Onua Tv

“So, when the Ball was played to his back, I saw it was him (Bocanegra) so I sprinted ahead of him and chested the ball, he wanted to destruct me to fall down and gets a foul, so when he hit me, I saw it was outside the 18 box. If it was inside the box, I will have fallen after the push. I realized it was outside and had to resist and then I asked the goalkeeper where you want it” Gyan sarcastically added.

“When the ball bounced, I just had to hit the target, there are some chances you don’t necessarily have to place the ball you just have to hit the target toward the post” the former skipper of the Black Stars narrated.

Asamoah Gyan played with Carlos Bocanegra in Rennes between 2008 and 2010 prior to the World Cup and took advantage of the Burly defender’s lack of speed when they clashed at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg.
