Asante Kotoko qualified for the 2025-26 CAF Confederation Cup after beating Golden Kick 2-1 in the finals at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. The club’s plans to reach the Money Zone have been hit with an unwanted news with CAF, the governing body of football on the continent, informing them that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium does not qualify to host games they have organised, according to Kessben Sports.

The last time the Baba Yara Sports Stadium hosted any CAF and FIFA organised game was when Angola visited Kumasi and defeated the Black Stars 1-0 in the opening game of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. Immediately after the defeat, CAF announced that the venue would need a major renovation before it would get the green light to host competitive games.

Asante Kotoko will have to make a long trip to the capital to host their games in the Confederation Cup.

Also, Bibiani Gold Stars, who won the Ghana Premier League, were contemplating using the Kumasi Sports Stadium for their home games and now must look elsewhere around the country for a venue.

CAF has confirmed that only the Accra Sports Stadium qualifies to host their organised competitions.

Kotoko and Gold Stars will learn their opponents in the Confederation Cup and Champions League for the preliminary round soon.
