Asante Kotoko defender Emmanuel Kotei has successfully undergone surgery after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
The right-back suffered the injury during a training session last week and received prompt treatment from the club’s medical team before arrangements were made for the surgery. Kotei’s operation was performed on Wednesday, and while he is set to begin rehabilitation soon, he has been ruled out for the remainder of the season. Due to the severity of the injury, no timeline has been provided for his return.
In response to Kotei’s absence, the Porcupine Warriors have signed defender Daniel Adrien Adjetey as his replacement. Head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum expressed confidence in Adjetey’s ability to strengthen the squad.
“With Kotei’s unfortunate ACL injury, it was important that we reacted in the market,” Ogum stated. “In Daniel, we are not just bringing in a player but someone who brings quality, experience, and competitiveness. He will not only strengthen our squad but also challenge Lord Amoah for that position, which is key for us moving forward. We’re confident he’ll make an impact both defensively and offensively.”
Asante Kotoko will face Karela United on Sunday in Kumasi as the second round of the Ghana Premier League gets underway.
