Asante Kotoko is grappling with a substantial debt of Gh¢3,533,424 million that has accumulated over the past three years. However, the club is also owed over GH¢8 million by sponsors and other entities.

The revelation about the club’s financial situation came to light during a meeting held at Manhyia on Friday, July 21, 2023. The meeting involved the club’s owner, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as well as club legends, supporters’ leadership, and other stakeholders.

During the meeting, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II assured those present that he would take personal responsibility for settling the debt before a new administration takes over.

As part of the ongoing changes, the Asante Kotoko board, consisting of 12 members, had their three-year mandate come to an end this month and has been officially dissolved by Otumfuo.

Concurrently, the term of the club’s management has also expired, leading to a need for new leadership and direction for the club.

Currently, Asante Kotoko is in a transitional phase, as they do not have a permanent head coach since the sacking of Seydou Zerbo in March this year.

However, Otumfuo has entrusted coach Kwasi Appiah with the task of assisting in player recruitment for the club. Additionally, he has been asked to play a crucial role in the search for a competent head coach to lead the club in the upcoming season.
