Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the owner of Asante Kotoko, has assigned the responsibility of player recruitment to former Black Stars and Kotoko coach, James Kwasi Appiah.
The decision was made during a meeting between Otumfuo and some club legends (AKOPA), supporters’ leadership, and other stakeholders at Manhyia on Friday, July 21, 2023.
Otumfuo expressed his concern that other Premier League clubs have already begun recruiting players and starting their pre-season preparations. In contrast, Asante Kotoko, who are currently without a substantive coach after the dismissal of Burkinabe gaffer Seydou Zerbo, have yet to make similar moves. Assistant coach Abdulai Gazale has been temporarily handling the coaching duties until the end of the previous season.
In light of this situation, Otumfuo has called on Kwasi Appiah to spearhead the recruitment process for the club and assist in securing a new head coach as soon as possible. The aim is to begin pre-season preparations promptly to get the team ready for the upcoming season.
Reports suggest that Dr. Prosper Nartey Ogum could potentially make a return to Kotoko as the head coach, having previously achieved success with the club as a league champion.
