Haruna Iddrisu, the owner of Karela United, has disclosed that Asante Kotoko has lodged a protest against the decision to relocate their upcoming match to the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex in Nalerigu.
The Porcupine Warriors expressed reservations about the suitability of the newly constructed facility to host such a high-stakes game.
The move to Nalerigu became necessary for Karela United due to the poor condition of the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, rendering it unsuitable for hosting matches.
Iddrisu highlighted the challenges faced by his club, emphasizing the urgent need for improved infrastructure in the Tamale region.
Speaking passionately in parliament about the dire state of the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, Iddrisu revealed the extent of the difficulties faced by Karela United. He expressed frustration at having to personally bear the cost of watering the pitch to maintain its condition.
“I’m struggling now to even get a stadium for training and even for my matches. This weekend I’m playing against the Porcupine Warriors (Kotoko). I have sent them to Nalerigu, and they have already protested that the standard of the pitch is not good,” lamented Haruna Iddrisu during his parliamentary address.
“Currently, Mr. Speaker I’m the one footing the bill to water the pitch. I’m the one doing it because of the state of the pitch. I need a Stadium for my matches and I don’t have it,” Haruna Iddrisu bemoaned.
