Asante Kotoko Rule Out Mass Squad Overhaul Ahead of Next Season – Sarfo Duku
Asante Kotoko Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, has dismissed reports suggesting a major squad overhaul at the end of the current campaign, assuring fans that only a few targeted additions will be made ahead of next season.
The Porcupine Warriors parted ways with head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum midway through the second round of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season due to poor results. Former club legend and national youth coach Abdul Karim Zito was appointed as interim manager to see out the season.
Speaking in an interview on Akoma FM in Kumasi, Sarfo Duku emphasized that despite overwhelming interest from players and agents both locally and internationally, the club will not engage in large-scale recruitment or departures.
“Despite the fact that players and their agents from Ghana and beyond have expressed great interest in playing for Kotoko on a daily basis, I can tell our supporters that the club will not buy and transfer players in bulk come next season,” Duku said.
He added that the club’s technical team and management have jointly agreed to adopt a more sustainable approach to player recruitment.
“This act is clearly detrimental to the club’s future, and both parties—management and the technical team—have agreed that it will not occur. Certainly, there will be one or two additions, but they won’t be numerous, as has been the case in recent seasons.”
Duku also reaffirmed Kotoko’s ambition of securing a domestic double, with the team already through to the MTN FA Cup final and still in contention for the Ghana Premier League title.
“Our goal of winning the double remains intact, and that is our primary focus right now.”
Asante Kotoko are gearing up for a crucial Matchday 31 clash against Dreams FC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for 15:00 GMT. Victory will be essential in keeping their league title hopes alive.
