Chief Executive Officer of Bibiani Gold Stars, Akwasi Adu, has praised the relentless efforts of club managers and financiers in the Ghana Premier League, describing them as “magicians” for keeping the competition alive despite the persistent lack of sponsorship.
The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign is drawing to a close without a headline sponsor, placing enormous financial strain on all 18 top-flight clubs.
In an interview with Citi Sports, Adu expressed admiration for the club executives who continue to honour league fixtures under difficult conditions.
“I should say this on behalf of all 18 Premier League clubs; the managers and financiers are magicians. Travelling across all regional boundaries without a sponsor is very difficult. We are all hoping to resolve this situation as quickly as possible.”
Adu also confirmed that Bibiani Gold Stars are actively pursuing sponsorship deals to strengthen the club’s operations ahead of next season. He expressed hope that the competitive nature of this season’s title race will draw the attention of potential sponsors.
“The competitive nature of this year’s title race, despite the challenges, should attract potential sponsors. We hope this will be a turning point for local football.”
Gold Stars have been one of the standout teams this season and currently sit second on the league table with 54 points, just behind leaders FC Samartex. The Bibiani-based side remains in the hunt for their first-ever league title and will be aiming to boost their chances when they host Asante Kotoko at the DUN’s Park next weekend.
The club’s consistent performance under head coach Michael Osei has sparked optimism among fans, and Adu believes off-field support through sponsorship will be key to sustaining their growth and ambitions.
