Technical Director of Asante Kotoko, Kwasi Appiah, expressed his desire for the team to clinch the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League title.
Currently occupying the 7th position with 22 points, the Porcupine Warriors secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Hearts of Oak on Sunday.
In an interview, the former Black Stars head coach conveyed his wish for Kotoko to emerge as champions while emphasizing the importance of the mandate given to head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum to build a strong team.
Despite his aspiration for league success, Appiah acknowledged the challenges posed by the team’s new squad, predominantly comprised of young players, stating that cohesive teamwork would require time.
“I wish Kotoko could win the league, but it depends on the strictness of the team now. Prosper Narteh Ogum started with an entirely new team, and to get the players to play as a team takes time,” explained Appiah, also a member of the Interim Management Committee (IMC), in a statement to Ghanasportspage.
Highlighting the broader perspective, he added, “The most important thing is to try and win the league, as Otumfour said. If he wins the league, it’s a bonus, but if he doesn’t, we have to exercise patience and give him some time.”
Asante Kotoko is set to face Real Tamale United in the upcoming Matchday 15 fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, December 22.
