Obuasi Ashantigold have chalked several great achievements since the creation of the club reaching the 1997 Champions league final and are winners of the Ghana premier league on four occasions.
But what the Miners have failed to do is to win a game of football as visitors of Brong Ahafo side Bechem United. While that is no big deal it is certainly a worry looking at the fact that the Obuasi-based side have won at even more harder grounds like the Accra sports stadium against Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics, Dormaa Nana Agyeman Badu Park and have also recorded some wins at the Babayara stadium over Asante Kotoko notably in the 2009.10 season.
In five visits at the Bechem Nana Ansu Gyeabour Park Ashantigold have left defeated two times whilst the other three encounters ended in stalemates.
However Saturday’s game , with Bechem United as the home team, will rather be played at the Babayara sports stadium as a result of the controversial decision of the league broadcasters to telecast live games only at some selected venues and the Bechem Park is not considered.
Whilst this is a home game of Bechem, the record Ashgold have never won at Bechem will remain even if C.K Akonnor’s men win today’s game in Kumasi. It is still a game played at a neutral venue.
Ashgold greatly appear as the favorites to win this one but Bechem United have also gotten some important draws at the Babayara in the recent years against Asante Kotoko and when the team reached the finals of the 2016 FA Cup they had to dispatch Wa Rockets in Kumasi.
The Miners – who escaped relegation towards the end of last season – are a different team at th start of the new season having maintained a hundred percent record winning all their three games played scoring five goals and conceding one.
They will certainly be tough for Bechem United who have lost two of three games played this 2018 season and the early signs are not good but the fact that Bechem defeated Ashgold back to back last season, 4-2 at Obuasi and 1-0 in Bechem, makes it even more big game for both teams.
