It’s been two good seasons that Ashantigold Sporting Club has not been seen anywhere near Ghana football.
Once among the elite clubs in Ghana, Ashantigold was demoted to Division Two; that’s the third Division of Ghana’s league after being found guilty of manipulating a match in Week 34 of the 2020-21 season.
Ashgold thrashed Inter Allies 7-0 on 17th July 2021 at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi. This is the game that led to their downfall as videos and audio showed the game was manipulated.
The club Ashgold was fined GHc100,000.00.
Stephen Owusu Banahene, Dacosta Ampem, Frank Akoto, Agyemang Isaac Opoku, Amos Kofi Nkrumah, Eric Esso, Moses Kwame, and Solomon Afriyie were all punished.
The committee banned five other players after they failed to appear before them for 30 good months. Emmare Emmanuel, Mohammed Bailou, Amos Addai, Paul De Vries Asare, and Nana Kwasi Darling all faced punishment.
On X, formerly Twitter, Ashanti Gold Sporting Club wrote, “The COMEBACK is always stronger than the setback. Stay tuned!!”.
What message is Ashantigold sending? Many football fans are wondering what exactly Oboakese is communicating.
Only time will tell what the Obuasi-based club is about to do.
