Midfielder Baba Yahaya of Asante Kotoko has expressed his readiness to step into the role previously held by his teammate Richmond Lamptey, who has been selected to represent Ghana in the upcoming AFCON 2023 campaign.
Lamptey, a key player for Asante Kotoko, earned a spot in the final 27-man squad announced by Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton. While acknowledging Lamptey’s national team call-up, Yahaya declared himself prepared to carry on the responsibilities for Asante Kotoko.
“Maestro (Lamptey) is gone, so right now I am the new maestro,” he stated, as captured by the club’s media. “When maestro was leaving, he left everything in my hands, so right now, I will do the job perfectly.”
Asante Kotoko is scheduled to face Gold Stars in the MTN FA Cup round of 32 at Dun’s Park this weekend.
