Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has commended the outstanding performances of Richmond Lamptey, acknowledging him as one of the standout players in the Ghana Premier League this season.
Lamptey, a 26-year-old central midfielder, has rightfully secured a spot in the 27-man squad announced by Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ogum spoke highly of Lamptey’s game intelligence, decision-making skills, and substantial contributions to Asante Kotoko. He highlighted Lamptey’s ability to bring excitement to the Ghanaian top-flight with his unique style of play.
“I think his game understanding, his ability to identify situations on the field and apply the right decisions makes him unique. Lamptey makes the league exciting with his deft touches; these are what he’s done over the seasons he’s played on the local scene and that has caught the attention of the numerous supporters who watch the local league.”
Underlining Lamptey’s potential for success at the highest football level, Ogum stressed the midfielder’s discipline and humility, identifying these qualities as crucial for Lamptey’s continuous growth as a player.
“I think with the right support, Lamptey can rise to the highest level in football, and I am saying this because of his high sense of discipline.”
Ghana, currently in camp in Kumasi, is gearing up for a friendly against Namibia on January 8, 2024, before heading to Abidjan for the AFCON tournament. In Group B, the Black Stars will face Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.
