Former Ghana international Samuel Osei Kuffour has thrown his full support behind Asante Kotoko to win the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League, confidently backing his prediction with a $5,000 wager.
The ex-Black Stars defender made the bold declaration while interacting with football fans after participating in the popular Monday Stars football session in Accra.
When asked which club he believes will be crowned champions this season, Kuffour wasted no time in naming the Porcupine Warriors.
“Asante Kotoko will win the league.”
Fans immediately challenged the Bayern Munich legend to put money behind his prediction, initially suggesting a GH¢10,000 bet. However, Kuffour raised the stakes even higher.
“Let’s make it $5,000. I guarantee you Kotoko will win the league.”
Kuffour’s confidence remains unwavering despite Kotoko’s frustrating start to the new campaign. Eric Tinkler’s side surrendered points on Matchday One after playing out a thrilling 2-2 draw against newly promoted Debibi United at the Golden City Park in Berekum.
The Reds will now be eager to register their first victory of the season when they host Heart of Lions at the Baba Yara Stadium in their Matchday Two fixture.
Kotoko, who strengthened their squad significantly during the transfer window, are among the favourites to challenge for the league title, and Kuffour believes they have what it takes to end the season as champions.
A Ghanaian football icon, Kuffour enjoyed a glittering career, winning the UEFA Champions League, multiple Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich, and later featuring for AS Roma before ending his playing career.
