Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare says Ghana must adopt a strong mindset and approach its upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with determination as the team seeks to begin its campaign with a victory.
Asare believes the Black Stars cannot afford to take the qualifying matches lightly and must ensure that their preparations are focused on securing the points needed to make a positive start.
The goalkeeper says the team’s mentality and level of preparation will be crucial as Ghana prepares for the challenging fixtures ahead.
“From now going our preparations and mindset have to be tough to get our first win in the AFCON qualifiers,” Asare said.
His comments come after he joined the Black Stars camp in Accra and took part in training at the Accra Sports Stadium alongside other early arrivals.
Asare is expected to be part of the goalkeeping options available to head coach Carlos Queiroz as Ghana prepares for the qualifiers.
The goalkeeper’s call for a tougher mindset reflects the importance of starting the campaign strongly, particularly after Ghana’s disappointment of failing to qualify for the previous Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
With Côte d’Ivoire among Ghana’s upcoming opponents, the Black Stars will need to maintain concentration and discipline throughout their preparations.
Asare says the team must therefore remain focused on the objective and ensure that its work on the training ground translates into positive results when the competitive matches begin.
