Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has retained his place in the Black Stars squad as head coach Carlos Queiroz names his team for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper is part of the squad preparing for Ghana’s important qualifying fixtures against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia as the Black Stars begin their journey towards the 2027 AFCON tournament.
Asare’s continued presence in the squad gives him another opportunity to compete for a place in Ghana’s goalkeeping department and further establish himself within the national team setup.
The goalkeeper has been included alongside Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Joseph Anang, with the three goalkeepers forming part of the options available to Queiroz ahead of the international assignments.
His retention comes at a time when the Black Stars are undergoing adjustments under Queiroz, with several players returning to the squad after missing the 2026 FIFA World Cup through injury or other circumstances.
The presence of Asare also means Hearts of Oak continue to have representation in the national team, highlighting the goalkeeper’s importance to his club and his progress at the domestic level.
For Asare, the latest call-up provides an opportunity to work with the Black Stars coaching staff, train alongside some of Ghana’s established international players and compete for playing time during the upcoming fixtures.
Ghana’s goalkeeping department will be expected to play an important role as the team begins its AFCON qualifying campaign, particularly with the Black Stars facing Côte d’Ivoire in their opening assignment.
Ghana will take on Côte d’Ivoire on September 24 before welcoming The Gambia to the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29.
The Black Stars will subsequently travel to Morocco for an international friendly against the Atlas Lions on October 4 as preparations continue beyond the AFCON qualifiers.
