Benjamin Asare unfazed by criticism amid Black Stars rise

Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare says he is not bothered by public criticism as he continues to focus on improving his performances for both club and country.

The Black Stars shot-stopper, who earned his debut for the senior national team in March 2025, has quickly become a regular presence in goal for Ghana.

Although some supporters have questioned his performances at times, Asare says he remains confident and refuses to allow negative opinions to affect him.

Speaking to 3Sports, the goalkeeper explained that mistakes are part of life and should not define a player’s future.

“So I don’t worry about people’s opinion. I know we can make mistakes in life, but I don’t let that burden me,” he explained. “Today, I can make a mistake, but tomorrow I can achieve something great. So I don’t let some things worry me that much. My encouragement is that God helps me maintain the level that I am now.”

Asare also rejected claims that his rise to the Black Stars happened unexpectedly, insisting his progress is the product of dedication and consistent performances for Hearts of Oak over the years.

“I’m a committed goalkeeper. Those who don’t know me will think I came from nowhere to the Black Stars,” he added.

The experienced goalkeeper further stressed that player invitations and selections are entirely the responsibility of the coaching staff.

“Player appointment and goalkeeper selection are all the work of the coach,” he stated.

Asare is currently with the Black Stars squad preparing for their international friendly against Mexico on May 22, 2026. He received a late call-up to replace Dreams FC goalkeeper Gidios Aseako.
