Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi marked his 250th appearance for Swiss side FC St. Gallen in style after producing a decisive penalty save in their 2-1 victory over FC Lugano on Sunday.
The Black Stars goalkeeper played the full 90 minutes and delivered a standout performance at the Stadio di Cornaredo, helping his side secure an important away win.
After a goalless first half, Lugano opened the scoring in the 53rd minute through Hadj Mahmoud. St. Gallen, however, responded strongly, with Mihailo Stevanovic restoring parity in the 69th minute.
The visitors completed the turnaround five minutes later when Lukas Görtler converted from the penalty spot to put St. Gallen ahead.
Lugano were handed a late opportunity to rescue a point after VAR awarded them a penalty deep into stoppage time. But Ati-Zigi emerged as the hero, pulling off an excellent save to preserve the victory and crown his milestone appearance with a memorable moment.
Since joining St. Gallen in 2020, the Ghana international has grown into one of the club’s most dependable players with several impressive displays in goal.
Across his 250 matches for the Swiss club, Ati-Zigi has conceded 365 goals while registering 49 clean sheets.
The 2025/26 campaign has also been a busy one for the shot-stopper, who has featured in 33 matches in all competitions, conceding 43 goals and keeping eight clean sheets.
