Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has gone from zero to hero after delivering back-to-back clean sheets in Ghana’s dominant victories over Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. His outstanding performances have solidified his place as a rising star in the national team.
Asare, who has been in fine form in the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season with 12 clean sheets, earned his maiden Black Stars call-up for the crucial qualifiers. He made an immediate impact, shutting out both Chad in a 5-0 win and Madagascar in a 3-0 triumph. Reflecting on his success, the 32-year-old revealed the key to his rapid rise.
“As a player, the secret is hard work; training, preparation, and mindset. You have to be aggressive about it because, without these things, you cannot make it as a footballer,” Asare shared.
The shot-stopper also credited the support he received in camp for helping him settle in quickly. The warm welcome from senior players, especially captain Jordan Ayew, gave him the confidence to perform at his best.
“As soon as I entered camp, everyone was happy to welcome me, which gave me more motivation to work hard,” he said. “Special thanks to Jordan Ayew—he motivated me all the time and told me that, despite being a local player, I can do this.”
With his performances turning heads, Asare has proven that homegrown talent can shine on the biggest stage. As he eyes more opportunities with the Black Stars, he will be hoping to retain his spot when Ghana competes in a four-nation tournament in June before facing Chad and Mali in the next round of qualifiers.
