1. A weekend full of hooliganism
At the Sunyani Coronation Park on Sunday, after a goalless draw in the Bono derby between Tano Bofoakwa and Nsoatreman, Maxwel Konadu was beaten to a pulp by some notorious Bofoakwa Tano fans. The experienced gaffer went unconscious after severely being beaten by some thugs which subsequently led to him spending two days at the hospital.
The match officials were also attacked, per reports.
At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Medeama defender Kwadwo Amoako punched the assistant referee after the game for awarding a controversial penalty to Asante Kotoko.
2. Mohammed Sherif buys Prosper Nateh Ogum’s time
A very controversial penalty was converted by Mohammed Sherif in the second half at the Baba Yara Stadium to secure a needed hard-fought victory for Asante Kotoko. Winless in 3 before this fixture, anything less than a win could have brought a whole lot of issues for Prosper Narteh Ogum and the team. Asante Kotoko has moved out of the relegation zone and is now lying 13th with just one point separating them and the relegation zone.
Mohammed Sherif’s penalty has calmed things down as rumours suggested Prosper was on the verge of losing his job due to horrible performances. Now he has time to return the team to their usual level.
3. RTU responds to four winless games with a sweet win over Dtesms
RTU needed a win at all costs. A 3-1 defeat of the CAF Confederation Cup debutants, Dreams FC was all the Tamale giants needed at this crucial moment. RTU had gone four games with just a draw and three defeats having conceded 9 and scored 1 goal. In a difficult game, RTU stepped up and collected all the needed three points at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale. RTU are now 11th on the log with 14 points.
4. Micheal Osei is on the brink of losing his job after a disastrous defeat to Nations FC
Micheal Osei in his third season as Bibiani Gold Stars coach has enjoyed some good moments having kept the Bibiani-based club in the top flight and making them a force at the Dun’s Park. Bibiani Gold Stars became the first team to be beaten at home by Nations FC which shows how poor Micheal Osei and his lads have been recently. Winless in seven, it is not a surprise at all to see Gold Stars informing Micheal Osei to take a leave in the meantime.
5. Karela ends Aduana’s awesome run
Aduana Stars was on a winning and scoring spree having won five consecutive games. On a trip to Tamale to face lowly Karela United, Aduana Stars suffered their first defeat in six games although they still occupy the top spot. Karela’s surprise win, their second of the season, has helped them move out of the relegation zone with just goals separating them and the 16th-placed team, Legon Cities.
6. Augustine Okrah shows his class
Augustine Okrah, 30, shows that class is permanent but form is temporal. The winger scored Bechem United’s opener at the Hohoe Stadium on Saturday afternoon which helped Bechem United secure a 2-1 win over Heart of Lions. The formal Asante Kotoko and Simba SC forward’s opener was his 6th goal of the season. The red-hot Okrah has scored 5 goals in his last 6 matches proving that he is in a different class compared to the other players.
Bechem United are 5th on the table having gone unbeaten in their last seven games. The 2-1 win is Bechem United’s first in 6 away games this season.
7. Heart of Lions is sinking to a new low
How would the Kpando-based club avoid relegation? It will probably be the biggest escape if they beat the drop.
Heart of Lions are in crisis after matchday 11. The only team yet to record a single victory in the league. They have drawn seven games and lost four making them the poorest team in the league.
Miracles do happen in football but it will take an extraordinary miracle for Heart of Lions to beat the drop.
Heart of Lions is sinking to a new low and needs someone to rescue them.
8. Berekum Chelsea is punching above their weight
One of the team’s pundits tipped to struggle before the commencement of the league was Berekum Chelsea.
Christopher Enning’s men, led by the in-form Amankonah have won their last four games which sounds unbelievable to many betPawa Premier League fans.
Patrick Ansu’s 97th-minute strike secured a precious three points for Chelsea after Stephen Amankonah missed a penalty in the first half. After matchday 11, Berekum Chelsea is unbelievably 3rd on the league table with just two points between them and the league leaders Aduana Stars. Berekum Chelsea is probably the most improved team this season. They are just punching above their weight.
9. Samrtex secures crucial point against Accra Great Olympics
Nurudeen Amadu’s Samartex secured their second point of the season away from home after losing four and drawing one in their five away games. A goalless draw against Annor Walker’s dangerous side, Oly Dade, is a good point. In the top four on 17 points, Samartex has been poor in their away games but looks more than impressive in their home games. With a home fixture next against RTU at the Nsenkyire Park, Samartex has the chance to close the gap at the top.
