Former Great Olympics and Karela United head coach, Bismark Kobby Mensah, has refrained from blaming Otto Addo for the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
For the first time in two decades, Ghana will miss out on the prestigious continental tournament after finishing bottom of Group F with just three points from six matches.
While there have been calls for Otto Addo’s dismissal following the team’s poor performance, Kobby Mensah believes the 47-year-old coach should not be solely blamed for the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for next year’s AFCON, which will be held in Morocco.
“As a Ghanaian who has followed the Black Stars, I wouldn’t want to blame Otto Addo because there are many factors surrounding the team,” he told Asempa FM. “If we don’t get the right results, I think we need to blame everyone associated with the Black Stars, not just Otto Addo.”
After a lengthy meeting with Otto Addo last week, the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has yet to make a decision regarding the future of the former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach.
