The Black Queens of Ghana have officially kicked off their 10-day training tour in Casablanca, Morocco, with 19 players reporting to camp on Monday.
The team is staying at the Ibis Hotel as they prepare during the FIFA February international window. The technical staff, management officials, and home-based players arrived in Casablanca on Sunday, February 16, via Air Maroc.
The squad was later joined by a few foreign-based players, with Jennifer Cudjoe, Azumah Bugre, and Grace Asantewaa expected to arrive on Monday from the USA, Turkey, and Mexico, respectively. Their arrival will increase the total number of players in camp to 22.
The team is also awaiting the arrival of Mary Amponsah, the top scorer in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, who was called up last minute to replace the injured Alice Kusi.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) organized this training camp to ensure the team remains in peak condition and to give head coach Kim Lars Björkegren an opportunity to assess his players ahead of the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.
As part of the tour, the Black Queens will face Morocco’s national team, the Atlas Lionesses, on February 21 at the Pèere Jègo Stadium. They will also play a friendly match against Moroccan club giants AS FAR Club three days later.
