Ghana’s Black Queens have marched into the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals, where they will meet Algeria on Saturday, 19 July.
The Queens sealed second place in Group C after a commanding 4-1 victory over Tanzania in their final group match in Morocco. Head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren’s side needed a win to stay alive, and they delivered in style, overwhelming the Twiga Stars with quick, attacking football.
Their WAFCON journey began on a rough note with a 2-0 loss to reigning champions South Africa. Ghana regrouped against Mali, battling to a 1-1 draw in a closely fought encounter. That result left everything riding on today’s showdown with Tanzania.
Rising to the occasion, the Queens dominated from the first whistle, converting their chances and controlling the tempo throughout. The three points lifted them to four in total—enough to finish behind South Africa and secure a knockout spot.
The quarter-final against Algeria promises to be another stern test, but Ghana will carry momentum and renewed confidence into the tie as they chase their first WAFCON title.
