The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has issued a statement confirming the cancellation of the scheduled international friendly match between the Ghanaian women’s national team, the Black Queens, and their Algerian counterparts.
The match was slated to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, April 8th, as part of head coach Nora Hauptle’s plans for high-profile games.
The GFA announced on Wednesday that the Algerian Football Federation had officially notified them of unforeseen circumstances that made it impossible for their delegation to travel to Ghana for the games.
The GFA expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the withdrawal of Algeria and added that they were working on securing a similarly strong opponent to replace them.
“The Ghana Football Association regrets to announce that the friendly matches against the Fennecs of Algeria have been called off,” the statement said.
“The Algerian Football Federation has officially written to the GFA citing unforseen circumstances which rendered it impossible for their contingent to travel to Ghana for the matches.
“The Federation has also expressed deep regret for any inconveniences caused by their withdrawal from the games.
“The GFA is working on an equally strong opponent to replace Algeria.”
