Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Ernest Norgbey, has downplayed the influence of head coach Otto Addo in Ghana’s recent victories over Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
In an interview with Citi Sports, Norgbey attributed the Black Stars’ strong performances more to the players’ drive and determination than to any tactical input from the technical team.
“I may not be a big fan of Otto Addo, not because he’s not a good coach, but because he’s not the right coach for the Black Stars of Ghana,” Norgbey stated.
He further explained that, in his view, the wins were fueled by the squad’s motivation rather than strategic planning. “The wins against Chad and Madagascar were not due to any tactical discipline but rather the motivation and hunger of the players. It wasn’t because we have a tactically gifted coach,” he added.
Otto Addo had been under fire after failing to guide Ghana to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with the team failing to secure a single win during the qualifiers. However, recent back-to-back wins in the March World Cup qualifiers appear to have eased some of the pressure.
Ghana secured dominant victories against Chad and Madagascar, scoring a combined eight goals without conceding, and currently sits at the top of their qualification group with 15 points.
