Jonathan Mensah, former Ghanaian international defender, has been officially unveiled by the New England Revolution as they gear up for the upcoming Major League Soccer (MLS) season.
Mensah, who joins the club as a free agent after departing from the San Jose Earthquakes, expressed his enthusiasm about his new journey with the Revolution.
The experienced defender, a previous MLS Cup winner and MLS Best XI selection, has signed a one-year contract for the 2024 MLS season, with an option for an additional year in 2025.
Having amassed seven seasons of MLS experience, including a notable six-year spell with the Columbus Crew from 2017 to 2022, Mensah brings a wealth of expertise to the Revolution squad.
During his tenure with the Columbus Crew, Mensah played a pivotal role in the team’s success under the leadership of head coach Caleb Porter, notably winning the MLS Cup title in 2020. His consistent performances earned him recognition in the MLS Best XI.
Following his successful stint with the Crew, Mensah continued to make significant contributions in the league, including helping the San Jose Earthquakes reach the postseason in the 2023 campaign.
Mensah’s achievements extend beyond his club performances, as he has represented the Ghana Men’s National Team on numerous occasions. With 70 caps to his name, he has participated in two FIFA World Cups, notably reaching the quarterfinals in 2010.
Additionally, Mensah has a decorated youth career, having won the African Youth Championship and the FIFA U-20 World Cup with the Ghana U-20 team in 2009.
With his wealth of experience and leadership qualities, Mensah is poised to make a significant impact with the New England Revolution as they aim for success in the upcoming MLS season.
