The Black Stars of Ghana are set to begin preparations for their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches on September 2, according to reports from Footballghana.com.
The national team will compete in Group F, starting with matches against Angola and Niger.
Ghana will first host Angola’s Palancas Negras at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on September 5 before traveling to face Niger on September 9. The team is expected to convene in Accra before heading to Kumasi for the crucial home fixture.
Head coach Otto Addo has reportedly submitted his squad list for the opening matches to the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association. Notably, no players from the Ghana Premier League are included in the squad, indicating a reliance on international-based players for these critical games.
Otto Addo is expected to field a strong squad as the Black Stars aim to secure qualification for the AFCON tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco next year. The team will be looking to build on their recent successes, having secured back-to-back wins against Mali and the Central African Republic during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June.
As four-time African champions, Ghana will be striving to finish in one of the top two positions in Group F to ensure their place in the AFCON tournament, scheduled to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
