Ghanaian defender Abdul Baba Rahman played a pivotal role in PAOK’s commanding 4-0 victory over Shamrock Rovers in the UEFA Europa League final qualification round.
The Greek side delivered an impressive performance at the Toumbas Arena on Thursday night, making their progression to the group stage all but certain.
The former Chelsea left-back was a standout performer, contributing not just defensively but also offensively, as he found the back of the net in the one-sided encounter. Rahman played the full 90 minutes, showcasing his skill and determination throughout the match.
“We are getting there now,” Rahman expressed after the game, reflecting on the team’s strong position ahead of the return leg.
PAOK took the lead just before halftime, thanks to an own goal by Daniel Cleary in the 45th+5 minute. The Greek side capitalized on their momentum after the break, with Taison doubling the lead just two minutes into the second half. The situation worsened for Shamrock Rovers when Joshua Honohan was sent off in the 52nd minute, leaving the Irish club with ten men.
PAOK continued to dominate, with Giannis Konstantelias adding a third goal in the 67th minute. Rahman then sealed the victory with a late strike, marking his second goal in three games for the Greek outfit.
This win puts PAOK in a strong position as they head into the return fixture, with their place in the Europa League group stage almost secured.
