In a disturbing incident, Ghanaian winger Joseph Paintsil fell victim to racial abuse during the Los Angeles Football Club’s match against El Trafico in the Major League Soccer.
Despite showcasing his skills on the field during the derby clash against the Los Angeles Galaxy, which ended in a 2-1 loss, the former KRC Genk player was subjected to racial insults by a fan of the opposing team.
Paintsil, 26, played the entire duration of the game, displaying commendable performance statistics. He completed two of six dribble attempts, passed the ball accurately 28 out of 31 times, and won eight of 17 ground duels during the contest.
However, the joy of the game was marred by a racist message directed at Paintsil on his Instagram page following the defeat. The offensive comment, which read “Mon Key couldn’t do anything today” accompanied by a laughing emoji, sparked widespread condemnation on social media, particularly on the platform Reddit.

Paintsil, who has notched two goals and two assists in seven MLS games since joining the side, faced this despicable act of discrimination, highlighting the ongoing battle against racism in football.
