Brazil announce squad to face Ghana in World Cup friendly

Brazil national team manager Tite has announced his team for a World Cup international friendly versus Ghana in September. The match is set for Friday, September 23 and it will feature one of the favourites to win the World Cup later this year. 

Tite’s Brazil squad will feature 26 players including Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar, Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino, and Manchester United’s Casemiro. However, one of the big omissions from the squad is Arsenal’s in-form forward Gabriel Jesus.

Fans are debating whether Brazil can win the World Cup in December in Qatar. The Selecao are preparing for the match against Ghana at the end of September. Fans can bet on the Brazil-Ghana match, but before they do, punters can read the Betboro registration guide to get the latest promo code for wagering on the international friendly.

Tite has also included Manchester United’s Antony, Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr, and Manchester City’s Ederson for the international friendly with Ghana. Tite’s squad includes:

  • Goalkeeper: Alison, Ederson, Weverton
  • Defenders: Danilo, Alex Sandro, Alex Telles, Bremer, Eder Militao, Marquinhos, Ibanez, Thiago Silva
  • Midfielders: Bruno Guimaraes, Casemiro, Fabinho, Fred, Lucas Paqueta, Everton
  • Forwards: Antony, Firmino, Matheus Cunha, Neymar, Pedro, Raphinha, Richarlison, Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo

While Tite has some of the world’s best players available for the match, Ghana manager Otto Addo has a more modest squad.

Jordan Ayew will join brother Andre Ayew for the match in Le Havre, France. Andre Ayew currently plays for Al-Sadd in Qatar. He will wear the Ghana armband and add to his 106 caps. Addo will also have Arsenal’s Thomas Partey available for the match.

Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams will represent Ghana for the match after changing international teams. Williams previously represented Spain, but will now represent Ghana, the country of his parents’ birth. Williams is one of six players hoping to make his Ghana debut. Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey is also hoping to make his debut for the national team.

According to the latest sportsbook odds, Brazil are the favourite to win the World Cup. The Selecao are 9/2 to win the tournament. Brazil have not won the World Cup since 2002 in South Korea. Tite is hoping to change the recent results for Brazil at World Cup tournaments.

Ghana will play Brazil in France to limit the amount of travel on European-based players. The number of games for European-based players could reach up to the 60s and 70s this season. Reducing travel will help players based in European leagues preserve their bodies for the November and December World Cup.

Ghana missed the 2018 World Cup in Russia but have qualified for this year’s event in Qatar. The Black Stars have a very difficult group that includes Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea. The group has been labelled as a Group of Death by some football pundits in the build-up to the World Cup 2022.

The 2022 tournament is the fourth World Cup Ghana have qualified for all time. The Black Stars previously qualified for the World Cup on three consecutive occasions in 2006, 2010, and 2014. In two of those three tournaments, Ghana reached the knockout stage.

The 2010 World Cup saw Ghana reach the quarterfinals where a controversial match with Uruguay took place. Ghana will have the chance to play Uruguay in the group stage of this year’s tournament.
