The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially revealed a substantial 40% increase in the Prize Money for the victorious team of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) set to take place in Côte d’Ivoire this month.
The triumphant team of AFCON 2023 in Côte d’Ivoire will now receive a grand total of USD 7,000,000, reflecting the significant boost in Prize Money. Additionally, the Runner-up’s prize has also witnessed a notable increase, reaching USD 4,000,000.
In the distribution of prizes, each semi-finalist is slated to receive USD 2,500,000, while the four Quarter-finalists will be granted USD 1,300,000 each.
Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the President of CAF, expressed his satisfaction with the strides made over the past two years, highlighting the commitment to enhancing the Prize Money not only for AFCON but also for other major competitions under CAF’s purview.
“We have increased the Prize Money of the AFCON Winner to USD 7,000,000, which is a 40% increase from the previous AFCON Prize Money,” he stated, emphasizing the significant progress in this regard.
Dr. Motsepe is optimistic that this substantial increase will not only elevate the sport but also contribute to football development. He anticipates positive impacts on various football stakeholders, emphasizing the potential assistance the funds can provide to Member Associations in strengthening their administrative capabilities.
“I am confident that a portion of the Prize Money will contribute to developing football and also benefit all the football stakeholders, as well as assist our Member Associations with their administrations.”
