When Joel Beya’s strike was disallowed by VAR due to handball in the build-up to TP Mazembe’s goal, it was an exciting news to Al Ahly while it was a morale-killing decision for the Congolese side.

Al Ahly was the best team in the first half as they dominated and created the most chances but failed to find the back of the net.

In the second half, TP Mazembe took a shocking lead and it was disallowed by the VAR. This was the turning point as Al Ahly took advantage of TP Mazembe’s shock and scored three goals in the last 22 minutes.

Ali Maaloul assisted Egyptian centre-back Mohammed Abdelmonem to open the scoring in the 68th minute for Al Ahly. The Tunisian left-back, Maaloul once again provided an assist to Wessam Abou Ali to put the tie beyond TP Mazembe’s reach with seven minutes to end the game. Akram Tawfik scored late in the game to make it 3-0 in favour of the Red Devils.

This is Al Ahly’s 5th straight finals of the CAF Champions League. The Cairo-based club has made the competition their bonafide property as words can’t describe their dominance.

The Red Devils will play against Esperance Sportive de Tunis in the finals with the Tunisians playing at home in the first leg.
