On Wednesday, Medeama is set to embark on a journey to Egypt in preparation for their CAF Champions League group stage debut against the formidable Al Ahly.
The Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo is the chosen venue for this weekend’s clash, where the Ghanaian champions will face the record-holding Champions League giants, Al Ahly.
With aspirations for a strong commencement to their group stage campaign, Medeama welcomes back the Black Stars trio of Jonathan Sowah, Fatawu Hamidu, and Nurudeen Abdulai. Arriving in Ghana on Wednesday, the trio will promptly join their teammates for the upcoming journey.
Jonathan Sowah, having made his competitive debut for the Black Stars in the World Cup qualifier against Comoros, brings his newfound experience to the Medeama squad. Meanwhile, Fatawu Hamidu and Nurudeen Abdulai, who observed from the bench during Ghana’s recent 1-0 defeat at the Moroni Stadium, are ready to contribute to Medeama’s Champions League venture.
For the Al Ahly encounter, Medeama is expected to travel with a contingent comprising twenty-one players and eleven members of the backroom staff.
This historic journey to the group stage was paved by Medeama’s victories over Remo Stars and Horoya AC of Nigeria and Guinea, respectively. In Group D, the Mauve and Yellow will also face challenges from Young Africans of Tanzania and CD Belouizdad of Algeria, marking a significant chapter in Medeama’s participation in the CAF Champions League.
