The second leg of the quarter-finals promised to be cagey, and thankfully, it did not disappoint.

South African side Stellenbosch travelled all the way to Egypt to face the defending champions Zamalek.

The South Africans needed to at least prevent Zamalek from scoring before fancying their chances. They did so and landed a knockout blow on the Egyptians eleven minutes from time. Sihle Nduli ‘s goal made the difference. Stellenbosch qualified at the expense of the much fancied Zamalek.

Simba SC in Tanzania had a difficult task against Al Masry after losing the first leg by 2-0.

The Tanzanians needed to score very early and did so through Congolese forward Elie Mpanzu in the 22nd minute. It was a dream start for Fadlu Davies and his men.

Ten minutes later, former Asante Kotoko’s speedster Steve Mukwala doubled Simba’s lead. It was 2-0 at the end of the first half in favour of the home side.

None of the sides was able to find the back of the net with the game travelling to penalties after 90 minutes. Simba scored all four of their penalties, while Al Masry scored only one of the three they took.

In-form Oussama Lamlioui scored the only goal in the 70th minute for Berkane to defeat Asec Mimosas by 1-0. The Moroccans progressed by winning 2-0 on aggregate.

All Algerian affairs were decided on penalties after another competitive 1-1 draw in Algeria between USM Algiers and Constantine. Adem Alilet’s 25th-minute penalty gave USM a 1-0 lead. Belhocini, in the 56th minute, restored parity for Constantine.

The game ended 1-1 with Constantine winning 4-3 on penalties.
