CAF Women’s Champions League 2023: Athletico Abidjan draw against Sporting Casablanca

The 3rd edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League kicked off today at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo which ended in a 1-1 draw between Athletico Abidjan and Sporting Casablanca.

Esperance Agbo, forward for the Ivorian side opened the scoring in the 37th minute to give Abidjan the lead before Nadège Nguessan Koffi levelled late in the 81st minute for the Moroccans in an entertaining Group A clash.

In the second game in the evening, the maiden edition winners Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies defeated JKT Queens of Tanzania by 2-0 with a goal in each half enough to see off the Tanzanians.

Ramalepe scored the first goal with 5 minutes to end the first half. Tholakele in the second half doubled the lead for Bayana Ba Style in the 74th minute.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies now top group A with 3 points followed by Athletico Abidjan with one point with Sporting Casablanca in third with one. JKT Queens of Tanzania occupy the last place after their 2-0 defeat against Sundowns Ladies FC.

The action continues tomorrow in Group B attheLaurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro. Defending Champions ASFAR CLUB will play against Ampem Darkoa Ladies of Ghana at 5 p.m.

Huracanes FC of Equatorial Guinea will square off against As Mande of Mali at 8 p.m. in the same stadium.
