Former Ghanaian captain Asamoah Gyan has disclosed that he has received offers to pursue a political career, citing his influence and contributions to the nation.
In an interview with Onua TV, Gyan acknowledged the longstanding calls for him to enter politics, a proposition that has been on the table for about a decade. Despite these offers, Gyan emphasized that any decision to delve into politics would be a personal one, not swayed by external pressure.
“The whole Member of Parliament issue began a very long time ago, and people kept on pushing it for about a decade now. Even in my playing days, these offers were always brought up to the table. Now I’m not playing and I’m back home and if I want to do it, of course, I can do it,” Gyan stated.
While Gyan remains open to political possibilities, he reaffirmed his dedication to leveraging his experience and expertise to advance sports in the country. His recent appointment to the New Patriotic Party’s campaign manifesto sub-committee for Youth and Sports underscores this commitment.
As the chairman of the Sports Sub-Committee of Dr. Bawumia’s manifesto committee, Gyan is poised to contribute significantly to the formulation of strategic sports policies for the NPP ahead of the December 7 elections.
In addition to his political involvement, Gyan continues to champion sports development initiatives. He recently launched the All Regional Games, a multi-sport competition designed to identify and nurture talents nationwide. The upcoming regional tour, set to kick off on Tuesday, April 16, underscores Gyan’s ongoing efforts to foster grassroots sports participation and excellence across Ghana.
