Nottingham Forest shocked Liverpool with a 1-0 victory at Anfield, thanks to a spectacular goal from Callum Hudson-Odoi, ending Arne Slot’s perfect start as Reds manager.
This win marked Forest’s first triumph at Anfield in any competition since 1969, halting Liverpool’s unbeaten run in the Premier League.
Hudson-Odoi, who came on as a substitute, delivered the decisive moment when he cut in from the left and curled a perfectly placed shot into the far bottom corner, leaving Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson with no chance. The 22-year-old winger’s strike sent Forest fans into raptures and secured a crucial win for Steve Cooper’s side.
Liverpool, brimming with confidence after winning their first three league matches without conceding a goal, dominated the early stages of the game. The Reds came close to breaking the deadlock in the first half when Luis Diaz hit the post after a brilliant solo run from a tight angle.
Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels was also tested, producing a fine save to deny Alexis Mac Allister’s header and nearly spilling a Diaz effort into his own net. However, despite Liverpool’s chances, they were unable to find the back of the net.
Forest grew stronger after the break, with Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga threatening before Hudson-Odoi’s match-winner. Despite the home crowd’s efforts to rally Liverpool, the Reds struggled to create clear-cut opportunities to equalize in the closing stages.
With this victory, Nottingham Forest moved up to fourth place in the Premier League, boasting two wins and two draws from their opening four matches. Liverpool remain in second, just one point ahead of their opponents.
