Carlos Queiroz has called for a broad and long-term approach to developing Ghana football, saying the country must invest in several areas instead of focusing only on the senior national team.
The Portuguese coach believes Ghana needs to strengthen its youth development system, improve the education and development of coaches and provide better football facilities across the country.
“We have to put seeds all over the place, in the youth preparation, coaches education, football pitches. Improve the quality of the pitches in Ghana,” Queiroz said.
He believes these areas are connected and that progress in Ghana football will require consistent investment across the entire football structure.
According to Queiroz, developing young players should go hand in hand with improving the quality of coaching available to them. Better training environments and improved football pitches, he says, would also create better conditions for players and coaches to develop.
The Black Stars coach used an analogy to explain the need for Ghana to spread its investment across different areas of the game.
“We have to put the eggs in different baskets as our mothers and grandmothers they do,” Queiroz said.
His comments point to a development model that goes beyond short-term results with the senior national team, focusing instead on creating a stronger football structure capable of producing talent and improving standards over time.
The approach would involve greater attention to grassroots football, youth development, coaching education and infrastructure, while maintaining the necessary support for the national teams.
For Queiroz, building a successful football nation requires laying the foundations at multiple levels so that the senior national team can benefit from a stronger system in the future.
His remarks therefore highlight the need for Ghana football to look beyond individual competitions and invest in structures that can support sustained development across the country.
