Carlos Queiroz says the length of his stay as Ghana’s Black Stars head coach will ultimately depend on results, stressing that his focus is on serving the national team rather than the duration of his contract.
The Portuguese coach was responding to questions about how long he intends to remain in charge of the Black Stars, and he made it clear that he does not want to place a specific number of years on his tenure.
“If Ghana football is happy with me, it’s not 2, 3, 4 years, it is 10 years… I’m not here for a contract, I’m here to serve the Black Stars.”
Queiroz explained that his future cannot be determined simply by a contract period, because football is heavily influenced by results and the expectations of the federation, players and supporters.
“The gods of football are results. So I can’t answer to you how many days, weeks, months or years that I will be in the job. Only the gods of football can answer to that.”
His comments come as the Black Stars prepare for their crucial encounter with The Gambia, with Queiroz placing emphasis on performance, commitment and results.
The coach has repeatedly spoken about building a stable Ghana team, developing a strong core of players and creating the right environment for the Black Stars to compete successfully.
For Queiroz, the immediate responsibility is to deliver on the pitch, while the longer-term future of his tenure will depend on how Ghana football assesses the team’s progress and results.
The coach’s comments also underline his willingness to remain with the Black Stars beyond the initial period of his appointment if the relationship continues to work and Ghana football remains satisfied with his service.
Rather than setting a fixed timeline, Queiroz says he is focused on the task ahead and on helping the Black Stars return to a level where they can compete consistently for major honours.
