The defending champions progressed to the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over the impressive Simba SC.
The Egyptians were leading 1-0 on aggregate before kickoff as they won 1-0 in Tanzania in the first leg. All they needed to do was to avoid Simba from scoring and the back four of Maaloul, Hany, Abdelmonem and Rabia made sure that Kibu Denis, Chama and Konoute had another bad night.
Simba dominated the first half by creating 7 goals scoring attempts and recording two on goal. Benchikha’s side couldn’t find a breakthrough before the first half.
In the second half, with just two minutes played, Anthony Modeste assisted El Solia to put the Egyptians ahead. It was a case of the die being cast for Simba as they needed to score twice to stand a chance to qualify.
Simba SC conceded a 98th-minute penalty with Kahraba scoring to make it 2-0 to end Simba’s campaign.
