Esperance and Sundowns are the third and fourth CAF teams to secure their places at the inaugural Mundial de Clubes FIFA 25™ (FIFA Club World Cup 2025). Esperance sealed a 2-0 aggregate victory over Sundowns, setting up a final showdown with Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Esperance’s advancement guarantees them at least a place at the 32-team FIFA Club World Cup in the United States next June and July through the ranking pathway. Sundowns, despite falling short in the Champions League semi-finals, will also participate in the global event, reflecting their consistent success over the past four years.
The competition will showcase four representatives from CAF, including Al Ahly and Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca, who have already secured their spots as previous Champions League winners.
Even if Esperance fails to defeat Al Ahly in the final, they will still claim one of the two remaining CAF berths based on their recent campaign ranking. Sundowns, known for their prowess, join the quartet through the ranking pathway, solidifying Africa’s presence in the revamped FIFA Club World Cup.
The new format of the FIFA Club World Cup aims to crown a true world champion by featuring top teams from each confederation in a summer spectacle.
