Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has cautioned the team to be on the alert ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar on Sunday, June 18.
Ghana approaches the game knowing that a win is enough to earn them a place at the 2023 AFCON to be staged in Ivory Coast next year following Angola’s win over the Central African Republic earlier on Saturday.
While Madagascar may be occupying the bottom spot in Group E, Hughton believes they possess what it takes it upset the Black Stars hence, the players would need to treat them with respect.
“We have big respect for the players. They have a lot of good players in their team and good technical players so as I said, we will treat them with a great respect and we expect a difficult game,” he told the media.
“If we play to the best of our capabilities, then we know we can get the results. But this is football. We have trained hard this week and I know the players will be very prepared.”
A win for Ghana will send them three points clear at the top of the table with just a game to play.
