CK Akonnor and his Ghanaian technical team have guided Gor Mahia to their 22nd Kenyan Premier League title, sealing the championship with two games still to play in the season.
The breakthrough came after rivals AFC Leopards, who had been chasing the title, suffered a 2-1 defeat to APS Bomet on Sunday, May 24, 2026, handing Gor Mahia a decisive advantage in the race.
With two games in hand, K’Ogalo now sit top of the table with 68 points, four ahead of AFC Leopards, who have just one fixture remaining and can no longer close the gap.
Gor Mahia’s week 33 match against Mara Sugar in Homa Bay was cancelled due to a court-related issue, but their earlier consistency ensured they remained firmly in control of the title race.
Akonnor, who took charge in August 2025, has played a key role in the club’s success alongside his Ghanaian backroom staff, including assistant coach Bismark Kobi Mensah, goalkeepers’ trainer Ben Owu, and video analyst Joshua Kofi Boafo.
The title-winning campaign was also boosted by several Ghanaian players in the squad, with Enock Morrison, George Amonoo, Ebenezer Adukwaw, and Ebenezer Assifuah all contributing to Gor Mahia’s dominant season.
