Ghanaian defender Clinton Doudou was on the scoresheet for Apollon Limassol, but his team fell 2-1 to Aris Limassol in a Round 31 match of the Cyprus League on Sunday.
Doudou, formerly of Bechem United, gave Apollon the lead in the 31st minute after a well-worked team move, putting them ahead at the Alphamega Stadium.
Aris responded strongly and managed to level the game before the break, with Yannick Gomis netting the equalizer just minutes before halftime.
Gomis had an opportunity to give Aris the lead early in the second half but missed a penalty in the 51st minute. However, the defending champions didn’t give up and found their winner through Aleksandr Kokorin in the 56th minute.
Despite the loss, Doudou continues to shine in his first season in Europe. He has now played 16 games for Apollon and has scored three goals—an impressive start since joining from the Ghana Premier League.
