Former Black Stars winger, Charles Taylor, has expressed his support for Michael Essien as the preferred candidate for the vacant Black Stars coaching position, challenging the perceived frontrunner, Otto Addo.
Following the dismissal of Chris Hughton due to a lackluster performance, including a disappointing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been actively seeking a new coach.
Otto Addo, a development coach at Borussia Dortmund, has emerged as a prominent contender. However, Taylor, renowned for his tenure with Hearts of Oak and appearances for Ghana, has raised doubts about Addo’s suitability for the role.
“Nothing good will come from Otto Addo. He has coached the team before, and there is nothing positive you could pinpoint from his first stint,” he remarked during an interview with Onua Sports.
“Should we consider all past coaches who qualified us for the World Cup? We must ensure that the right individuals are available to revive Ghana football. I advocate for Michael Essien for the coaching job. Essien, alongside Stephen Appiah and Laryea Kingston, are former players known for their boldness and ability to instill discipline among the players,” Taylor added.
Taylor’s endorsement of Michael Essien highlights the ongoing debate surrounding the selection of the next Black Stars coach and underscores the importance of strong leadership and discipline within the team.
