Asante Kotoko’s first-choice goalkeeper, Danlad Ibrahim, has heaped praise on his teammate Frederick Asare, impressed by the latter’s remarkable debut season with the club.
Asare joined the Porcupine Warriors before the 2022/23 campaign after his contract with Accra Lions expired. Despite the team’s disappointing performance throughout the season, Asare delivered a masterclass performance during his first year with the club.
Due to his national team commitments, Danlad made ten appearances for Asante Kotoko in the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League. He was involved in the Black Stars squad for the World Cup in Qatar in December and also represented Ghana in the CHAN championship in Algeria in early 2023. Additionally, Danlad was called up for the U23 AFCON held in Morocco.
During his absence, Frederick Asare proved his worth for the Porcupine Warriors, contributing significantly to the team’s 4th-place finish last term.
“I would give him a perfect score of ten out of ten. You know, many players face difficulties when they join Kotoko. When he arrived, there were doubts, so I spoke to him. Asante Kotoko is a prestigious club, and when you get the chance, you must make your family and the Kotoko supporters proud,” Danlad expressed to Kessben Sports.
He added, “…At Kotoko, you are not brought in to sit on the bench. They expect you to perform just as well as the player you replace when given the opportunity. So, when you are at Kotoko, we are all equally capable and expected to excel.”
