Ghana defender Derrick Köhn has expressed his excitement ahead of the Black Stars’ upcoming friendly match against Germany next year.
Ghana are scheduled to face the 2014 World Cup winners in Stuttgart on March 30 as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The Union Berlin left-back, who recently made his Ghana debut against Japan at the Kirin Cup, described the match as special because Germany is the country where he has lived his entire life.
Speaking to 3Sports, Köhn said he is eager to be part of the squad and hopes many Ghana fans will be present at the stadium.
“I can’t wait for the game,” he said. “I even messaged the Black Stars team manager and told him that if I’m selected, I will need about 100 tickets. I want a lot of people to come and support.”
Köhn added that many of his friends and contacts in Germany are already showing interest in attending the match, making the occasion even more meaningful for him.
“People in Germany are messaging me and asking me to make it happen so they can come and watch. I want to show them that Ghana is here and ready,” he explained.
The defender sees the friendly as more than just a warm-up game. He believes it is a chance to test himself against strong opposition while helping the team build momentum ahead of the World Cup.
“We want to prepare well, play a good match, and try to beat Germany. That would be a dream for me,” Köhn said.
Köhn has enjoyed a strong start to the 2025/26 season with Union Berlin, making 15 appearances so far, and he will be hoping to earn a place in Ghana’s final squad for the upcoming international assignments.
