Derrick Köhn made his long-awaited debut for the Black Stars in Ghana’s international friendly against Japan on 14 November 2025.
The Union Berlin left-back, who has been on the radar of the national team for some time, finally earned his first minutes in the Ghana jersey after completing his nationality switch earlier in the year.
Köhn was introduced in the second half as Ghana looked to reshape its defence and add energy on the flanks. His entry brought renewed pace and calm ball distribution, with the 26-year-old showing the same attacking strength and defensive discipline he is known for in the Bundesliga.

Despite the difficult nature of the match, Köhn settled quickly, making confident touches, overlapping runs, and contributing to Ghana’s build-up play. His composure under pressure and strong positioning were clear signs of the quality he brings to the squad.
For Köhn, the debut represents a major personal milestone after years of steady development in Europe. For the Black Stars, it marks the arrival of another reliable option at left-back as the team continues to build toward future tournaments.
His performance has given fans and the technical team hope that he can become an important part of Ghana’s defensive setup in the years ahead.
