Djamel Belmadi was forced to step down after the 1-0 defeat to Mauritania in Algeria’s 3rd game of the group.
Algeria opened the 2023 AFCON with a 1-1 draw against Angola followed by a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Burkina Faso in their second game. In a must-win match against minnows Mauritania, the Fennec Foxes fell to a 1-0 defeat which subsequently sent them home.
Djamel Belmadi, the 47-year-old head coach of Algeria, resigned from his duty as the head coach of the Algerian national team after 6 years of leading them.
Per information emanating from Algeria, the Algerian Football Association authorities forced Belmadi to step down soon after the 1-0 defeat to MMauritania.
The 2019 African champion is now demanding for €7.8m as a financial compensation.
Algeria has contacted Herve Renard for the vacant head coach position but the astute French tactician has a contract that will expire in August 2024 with the French Women’s national team.
