Former Hearts of Oak winger Bernard Don Bortey has urged the club’s current players to step up and take greater responsibility on the field.
Speaking in an interview aired by Peace FM, Bortey expressed concern over the team’s lack of urgency and questioned the players’ reliance on the coaching staff for direction. “You’re not a 12-year-old being taught how to play football. The game is in you — it’s time to wake up and show it,” he said.
Hearts of Oak have endured an inconsistent campaign in the Ghana Premier League and currently sit sixth on the table with 46 points after 30 matches. Their title hopes are slipping away with only four games remaining in the season.
Bortey called on the squad to show more determination and pride, emphasizing the weight of responsibility that comes with wearing the club’s iconic jersey.
The Phobians will look to bounce back when they face Berekum Chelsea on May 18.
